Well, my poor little man is requilling already! Lots of little spots on him that I will have to tend to.  He's been getting Aveeno baths everyday (spoiled little guy)!  Last night he really enjoyed a hard boiled egg for supper adn then burned off teh calories on his wheel! It's so cute listening to him run on the wheel.

His sores seem to be getting better, which makes me happy and he's bonding with everyone so well! Paulo won't leave the poor little guy alone!  I keep telling him that if he's going to hang out with Meeko like this while I'm at work all the time and he ends up bonding to him instead, he gets to clean the cage, feed him, buy his supplies, bathe him, etc. lol!  So much ofr him being "Just a hedgehog"!

We both love him dearly and can't wait for his requilling process to be over.  I feel so sorry for him and don't like to see him uncomfortable, but I guess that just means I'll have to give him more love to get him through it! <3

Day 3

I am completely satisfied that Meeko is happy in his new home.  Last night he was curled up with me for an hour on the couch, just sleeping away while I rubbed his tummy and pet his quills.  They're so much softer when he's content!

Later on that night, I had him again and he was sleeping under the collar of my sweater for probably about another hour.  I bid him good night later on and placed him back in his home.  He ate, used his litterbox, had a drink and went on his wheel to burn off some calories :)

I woke him this morning (as I do every morning) before I went on my way to work to tell him I loved him and would be home before he knew it.  He was licking my sweater  like crazy then decided to bite it and tug with all his might .  Then he foamed at the mouth and spread it all over his quills.  I think that's a good sign!  I told him if he wanted to smell like me, I would just spritz him with a little perfume (naturally I wouldn't but it was just a cute moment we were having first thing in the morning).  I miss him when I'm gone and when he's sleeping I just want to wake him up all the time but I know my baby needs his sleep so I try to give him as much space as possible!  I can't wait to start bathing him and tending to his needs so that he truly knows I'm here for him no matter what and would do anything I could for him!

Sigh, this is was true love feels like <3 Meeko

Pick up day - November 17, 2010

Well, yesterday was the day that I got to pick up my new found friend, Meeko.  Surprisingly enough, he was much more curious about me than he was the previous day on our initial meeting.  I was very excited to take him home and hoping that he was too!

As soon as I got home, I immediately began assembling his new home.  I was eager to hold him, but my boyfriend got to him first (grrr haha)!  He was fine with him and I was a little disappointed because of how standoffish he was of me the previous day.  Shockingly, Meeko started to lick Paulo's hand! Now I'm even more envious because he's supposed to be my friend, but I'm also glad at the same time that he is being socialable.  I let them hang out for a bit then requested that I be able to hold Meeko.

He was shy at first but then he warmed right up to me and was trying to crawl all over me, and he even licked me as well!! I was so excited and happy that this happened so suddenly!! We played together for a while and then I placed him in his new home.

Once in his cage, I assumed he was going to dart right for his igloo and hide but, he did the exact opposite and went right for his food!  He explored a bit, then grew tired and ventured into his igloo for a nap.

I myself was starting to get tired later on so I wanted to wish him a good night and tell him that I love him and am so happy of the progress we made that day so I woke the poor little guy up.  Needless to say, he wasn't happy about that at all, but once he was awake he was right back to crawling all over the place.

An exciting thing happened, he fell asleep in my hand on my lap and put his quills all the way down which he hadn't quite done yet, close, but not quite.  I was so happy and content and wished I could just take him to bed with me and we could sleep the night away but I knew he needed to be returned to his home I had made for him to get some sleep.

I placed him in his caged, he walked around a bit and then ventured off into his igloo with his blankie.  I bid him goodnight and told him that I would see him bright and early the next day.

Initial Meeting

My initial meeting with Meeko wasn't very promising.  We were both quite nervous as I had never seen, nor held a hedgehog in my life and he had never seen, nor smelled me in his life!  I tried holding him, but he wasn't having anything to do with me.  It sadden me a bit but I knew he just needed time so I purchased him and scheduled to pick him up from an amazing breeder called the "Hedgie Whisperer" and that she is!  You can located her blog and website from my blog as I am one of her followers.
